Can you really take both antidepressants and birth control at the same time?

I have a story (as does my whole family) anxiety and depression. I was on Paxil, Effexor, Serzone and Zoloft in the past. I intend to try to find something else that might work. I do not want to get pregnant now and since I am allergic to latex, which can not always use condoms. My former doctor told me I could handle, but not the other. Is this really true?

No. Talk to your family doctor, her OB / GYN and pharmacist. Can be guided in choosing the best combination of drugs. I take Effexor and Prozac and birth control Progestin-only birth control and my doctor told me that antidepressants do not interfere with birth control pills. An additional resource for you – the booklet comes with prescriptions. Your doctor or pharmacist can give you, and you can also find the site. Read these carefully to see if there are contraindications against oral contraceptive use. If you are concerned, you can always double and use another method of contraception besides the pill. There are films suppositories vaginal creams, foams and gels that can be used. You can also get sponges. The sponge is now available in the United States. Canada has another sponge, called Protectaid, which uses a different combination contraceptives and very different from the Today sponge. My sister-in-law is the medicine for seizures and constant control pill births. Doctors said the drug that makes taking the pill less effective, so she and my brother always careful not to use another method in case. (They also know that your medication can cause birth defects if you really want to pay attention to pregnancy.) Good luck to you.
